i
had a run at Sundarbans
that
mangrove treasure trove
watched
a croc a slithering
swam
where dolphins dove
i walked among the halophytes
whose
misguided roots abound
froze
amidst the fertile calm
absorbing
every sound
i stood beside the fishermen
regaled
by salty tales
they
spoke of stealthy pirates
and
thieving iron whales
by
boat I scanned the shore
by
foot I manned the beach
with
birds and deer and wild boar
just
slightly out of reach
a
monkey here and there
a
lizard in a tree
twas
glad to wave and grin hello
but
they're not what I came to see
for
in this swampy wonderland
do
you know what can be found?
a
pretty orange kitty cat
that
likes to swim around
if
Mother Nature favors you
and
the kitty feels inclined
you
may just get to feast your eyes
upon
the universe refined
and
though they are a marvel
to
ponder and behold
these
kings and queens are powerless
their
fate they do not hold
the
plight of pretty kitty
and
all that they hold deer
you
will find is intertwined
with
the bipeds in the rear
a
blight upon our honor
if
Shangri-La is lost
but
just in case I've shown my face
to
remember at all costs
so
where the Ganges meets the sea
in
Asia's hidden cove
I
had a run at Sundarbans
that
mangrove treasure trove.
